What's inside

A complete overview of FLOQSwabs®, Copan’s patented flocked swab technology, including how the design differs from traditional fiber swabs, the full lineup of swab formats and breakpoints, and where each configuration is most commonly used.

  • The original flocked swab: invented by Copan in 2003, FLOQSwabs® introduced a thin absorbent Nylon® fiber layer applied via a proprietary flocking process, replacing the spun-fiber design that traps the specimen
  • Superior specimen collection and release: no internal core to trap the specimen, allowing rapid absorption and elution of more than 90% of the collected specimen into transport media
  • More tests from one specimen: high elution efficiency makes multiple aliquots available from a single collection, supporting culture, Gram stain, rapid antigen, and molecular workflows from the same swab
  • Designed for many collection sites: regular, minitip, ultra-thin minitip, flexible, mini flexible, and contoured mid-turbinate formats with stoppers, in 30mm, 50mm, 80mm, and 100mm breakpoints
  • Broad assay compatibility: validated for use with a variety of bacteriology and virology transport media, with published evidence supporting use across nasopharyngeal, oral, vaginal, rectal, and other common collection sites
  • The platform underneath the LBM line: FLOQSwabs® are the foundation for ESwab®, FecalSwab®, UTM®, and other Copan collection systems that pair the flocked swab with task-specific transport media
  • Two packaging formats: peel pouch (sterile, individually packaged) for direct use, and in-tube configurations for distribution alongside transport media systems

Always read the manufacturer’s package insert for specific instructions regarding specimen collection and transport for the type of test kit being used. Specimen collection should be performed by health care personnel who have completed training and demonstrated competency. Product availability and regulatory approval may vary by country or region.
