What's inside
An ESwab®-focused look inside Copan’s Liquid Based Microbiology brochure, highlighting FLOQSwabs® technology, 1 mL Liquid Amies medium, quantitative specimen collection, multi-purpose testing, assay compatibility, and automation-ready laboratory workflows.
Liquid-based collection and transport: ESwab® pairs Copan FLOQSwabs® technology with 1 mL of Liquid Amies medium in a plastic screw-cap tube for streamlined specimen collection and transport.
FDA-cleared bacterial workflows: ESwab® is FDA-cleared for collection, transport, and preservation of aerobic, anaerobic, and fastidious bacteria.
Specimen uptake and elution: ESwab® kits contain a Copan flocked swab which has no internal core to trap the specimen, allowing for rapid specimen uptake and elution.
Multi-purpose testing support: Published studies have described the use of a single ESwab® specimen for multiple laboratory applications, including Gram stain preparation and culture.
Organism viability: Maintains organism viability for up to 48 hours at room or refrigerated temperature, with N. gonorrhoeae survival for 24 hours per CLSI standard.
Automation-ready specimen processing: ESwab® liquid specimens can be used on automated specimen processors and liquid-handling pipettors, helping laboratories reduce manual handling and support automation workflows.
Swab format flexibility: Regular, minitip, and flexible minitip applicators support a broad range of collection sites, including nasal, throat, vaginal, rectal, wound, urogenital, pediatric, and nasopharyngeal collection. The choice of swab variant and its suitability is left to the healthcare professional.

Broader LBM context: The full brochure also covers FecalSwab®, SnotBuster™, and UriSponge®, plus how Liquid Based Microbiology opens the door for automated specimen processing on WASP®.
Important note: Always read the manufacturer’s package insert or product documentation for specific instructions regarding specimen processing, incubation, storage, limitations, and test compatibility. Specimen processing should be performed by trained healthcare or laboratory personnel according to validated laboratory protocols. Product claims, indications, availability, and configurations may vary by country. Please consult the applicable product labeling and regulatory information for your market.
