What's inside
A complete overview of UTM® Universal Transport Medium™, Copan’s CE-IVD and 510(k)-cleared system for the collection, transport, and preservation of upper respiratory specimens containing respiratory virus nucleic acids, designed for use with compatible molecular assays.
- •510(k) cleared (K232357): updated intended use covers molecular testing applications for UTM® Universal Transport Medium™ without beads, with full compliance to CLSI M40-A2 standards
- •48-hour stability, plus long-term freeze storage: preserves target organism viability for up to 48 hours at both room and refrigerated temperatures, with -80°C storage supported for up to one year
- •Built-in growth control: unique formulation includes antibiotics and antimycotics that inhibit bacterial and fungal flora without affecting viruses, chlamydia, mycoplasma, or ureaplasma viability
- •Visual integrity check: a phenol red pH indicator gives clinicians and laboratory staff a visual gauge of medium integrity throughout the storage life of the product
- •Self-standing skirted conical tubes: shatterproof polypropylene tubes are easy to handle for clinicians, laboratory staff, and automated platforms
- •Customizable formats: choose from bulk media tubes or kits paired with FLOQSwabs®, in regular and round-bottom tube configurations to fit different downstream workflows
- •Now compatible with Roche cobas® 5800/6800/8800: a new round-bottom tube format supports direct loading on Roche cobas® platforms, with a formal claim for molecular detection of upper respiratory pathogens
- •Automation ready: UTM® can be processed manually or with automated laboratory platforms such as Copan UniVerse®
Always read the manufacturer’s package insert for specific instructions regarding specimen collection and transport for the type of test kit being used. Specimen collection should be performed by health care personnel who have completed training and demonstrated competency. Compatibility with specific assays and platforms should be confirmed in the assay’s instructions for use. Product availability and regulatory approval may vary by country or region.
