Universal Platform for Flexibility to Manage a Wide Range of Specimen Containers WASP® is a milestone in microbiology.
It is the first instrument of its kind that has the flexibility to process a wide range of specimen types and a diversity of specimen containers on a single automated processing platform. The WASP® also works with any manufacturer’s plated media for maximum flexibility. One universal platform that automatically plants and streaks all specimens types swabs, urines, feces, sputum, body fluids and pre-enrichment broths.
Multi-Operational Modes for Maximum Utilization
WASP® has multiple operational modes that include automatic planting and streaking, automatic broth subculturing plus a streak-only mode. The versatility of the modes ensures the maximum utility of the instrument by any lab of any size:

Full Process Mode – instrument manages the specimens and the entire process of sampling, planting, streaking and reclosing

Subculture Mode – using instrument-ready selective or enrichment broths, WASP® automatically samples, plants and streaks

Streak Only Mode – instrument streaks plates after the operator has manually planted a specimen or broth culture onto plates.

Large Capacity Minimizes Operator Visits
This instrument addresses two factors that drive efficiency of automated planting and streaking of samples, namely plated media capacity and sample loading capacity:


WASP® features a 9 silo carousel that holds 324 to 378 culture plates

Each silo can be loaded with a unique media type or silos can be loaded with the same medium

Using a pallet system you can load 72 ESwabs, 72 Urine Vacutainers or 36 Cary-Blair fecal transports at any one time

Large screw cap containers are managed using a Specimen Turntable that allows you to load up to 42 containers at any one time

WASP’s unique pallet & turntable systems allow you to continually and randomly reload with additional specimens anytime during the cycle without stopping the instrument

After streaking, culture plates can be automatically sorted and presented based upon incubation conditions using an integrated Sort-Out Plate Stacker

Familiar Classic Streak Patterns Reduce Staff Training and Increase Standardization

Robotic plate streak patterns are standardized and of unmatched quality for easier and faster readability

Intuitive software allows you to choose from a library of classical streak patterns or to create your own streak design

The WASP® is able to plant and streak samples using whole plates with 1, 2, 3 or 4 streaked zones, and biplates using horizontal or vertical patterns

By using classical patterns, the need to retrain staff to read new patterns is eliminated and standardization in planting is achieved.

Barcode Driven System and Simple Intuitive Software Improves Accuracy and User Experience

Windows-based software, touch screen commands and a ubiquitous barcode system, drive the process making all operations fast and simple and minimizing hands on time

Barcode-driven system reduces errors, improves accuracy of specimen processing, and eliminates transcription and transposition errors

Full Integration with L.I.S. available or can operate as an independent specimen processor

Flexibility to manage from simple to complex plate set ups – from throat swabs, urines, MRSA screens, to multiple fecal and wound culture plates

Laboratories can easily create their own protocols.
