Automation

Specimen processing is an important job in microbiology and needs to be done quickly, efficiently and to a high standard.  Reliable and accurate diagnosis depends on the quality of the samples and proficiency of specimen setup.  Despite its importance, the task of specimen processing is a laborious repetitive activity that takes skilled personnel away from important interpretative work, esoteric testing and new assay technologies that require their expertise.

Laboratory managers around the world face a rapidly aging population of laboratory staff and a higher incidence of unfilled vacancies for skilled workers.  Maintenance of precious skilled staff and competency is a serious and increasing challenge, which is compounded by increasing workloads and decreasing resources.

Routine tasks like planting and streaking, Gram slide preparation and broth inoculation all occupy much of a technologist’s time.  Opening, sampling and closing specimens numerous times each day pose a serious concern about repetitive stress and fatigue.

Upfront Specimen Processing

WASP®DT: Walk-Away Specimen Processor is a solution for preanalytical Microbiology.  It is an open platform, modular instrument, and the only one in its field that addresses all aspects of automated Microbiology specimen processing: planting and streaking, Gram slide preparation and enrichment broth inoculation, to name a few.

WASP®DT is not a closed box that requires the Microbiology lab to adapt to it. WASP®DT is an extension of the laboratory professional.  It allows the freedom to walk away from specimen set up and focus on high level tasks.

Full Lab Automation

WASPLab™ is a barcode driven microbiology specimen processor and work-up system that connects with WASP®DT by conveyor track to move samples from front end procession to full specimen management, automated incubation and digital Microbiology.
